So Bigby, who hasn't chewed up anything since we got him today knocked one of my miniatures off the cart that I keep near where we play. Well he killed the min. Mind you I really wouldn't have cared that much except that it was my Mordenkain Min. that is hard to get an way to expensive to replace (and he was almost named for)

So a little bummed about the fact that he eat that one

Time:01:15 pm
Well the Oral arguments on Prop 8 went to the state court today. So we should know sometime Soonish about the next step. The High Court of Ca has 90 days to decided on the matter. I am of course hoping that they overturn it as it sets an scary president about being able to take peoples rights away.

So Paul decided to block off Bigby into our computer room when we aren't home so that he is not scratching up the front door. In order to do this Paul put our card table.

Well it seems that we have the 6 million dollar doggie, because the little guy can leap over it

Subject:Mordenkainen's Faithful Hound
Time:12:04 pm
So the great dog name debate has begun.

One of the ones Paul suggested was Rusty, while it is a cute name it is not the unique. We were talking about giving him a geek name since that fits us. I suggested Morden, as in the Babylon 5 character and short for Mordenkainen the Mage from the Circle of Eight from Greyhawk. Since Paul's a B5 fan and I'm a GH fan

Besides Mordenkainen's Faith Hound is one of Mordenkainen's own spells so I loved the idea. Well as the lack of sleep was kicking in last night Mordenkainen became Morden Canine which cracked me up to no end.

Paul isn't loving the idea.... So we'll see

SO there were 2 dogs that we were looking at one is a Female Norfolk Terrier (they think), 10 months, and the other is a Male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix (unknown), 1 year 10 months.

Well it seems that the Terrier's own reclaimed her, so she is out of the question. The Spaniel was turned in my his owner, but he has a Microchip that they had to check out. As it turned out, the chip was never activated (which is odd), and it seems that he came from a pet store originally. So they have to make sure that he wasn't stole (since the chip wasn't turned on when he was bought). If that checks out on Tuesday or Wednesday he gets to come home with us :) If not we get to keep looking. We saw a cute cocker spaniel on Saturday, she had a front leg that never fully formed so she had a stump, but was just so love-able. But I believe that she has a home already, since she was not listed anymore as available.

Time:11:35 am
So after quite sometime, and discussion, and changes to the rules at our current apartment complex we are able to add a member to our family.

Paul and I are getting a dog :)

I know that isn't a big deal to most of you, but we've wanted one for sometime now. So yesterday we went to the animal shelter to pick one out. We've got it down to 2 possible dogs, but neither of them can come home until next week (due to when they came in etc)so we have a few days to decide which one comes home.

As it turns out this is a lot harder then I would have ever guessed it would be, since both of them are cute as hell and both need a good home. Once I have more info I'm sure that I'll post it

Subject:Passing on Prop 8 info
Time:12:19 pm
Anti-equality groups are currently flooding the Capitol with threatening phone calls demanding members of the Senate and Assembly Judiciary committees oppose the two resolutions to overturn Prop 8 when they come up for a vote on Tuesday.

We cannot let their attacks and threats go unanswered! We need to make sure that legislators hear from those who support equality.

Please call key members of the Senate and Assembly Judiciary Committees who have supported LGBT equality in the past (sample script and phone numbers are below). Ask them to support the resolutions to overturn Prop 8 to protect all minorities from the risk of losing their rights at the ballot box.

If passed, the two EQCA-sponsored resolutions, SR 7 and HR 5, authored by two of our champions in the Legislature, Senator Mark Leno and Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, will put the California Legislature on record as supporting the invalidation of Prop 8, declaring it an illegal revision to the state constitution.

This is our fourth of five actions leading up to our giant lobby day to overturn Prop 8 on Tuesday, the day of the vote, when over 2,000 activists will come together at the Capitol to urge their lawmakers to support these critical resolutions.

Take Action Today! Call Now!

In solidarity,

Geoff Kors
Executive Director
Equality California

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sample Script

Thank you for past support for equality. My name is [Your Name] and I am calling to ask for you to vote in favor of SR 7 / HR 5 because Prop 8 is a drastic and radical revision to the California Constitution that puts all Californians at risk. I believe in equal protection under the law and do not want a simple majority of voters to be able to take fundamental rights away from any minority.

Thank you. [Your Name]

Subject:Campaign Ideas - Shooting Blanks
Time:02:45 pm
So I've been kicking around the idea of starting up a RPG game at work. But not so sure as to what to run.

As it stands currently I'm running a Table Top and Larp both in World of Darkness. Seeing as to where I'm working I'm thinking that something fantasy would be in order. I was also thinking about Mutants and Masterminds but really I ran that not to long ago with mixed results so I'm leading to Fantasy.

The Problem is the first thing that popped into my head was Darksun, but since I was thinking of using the 4.0 rules (so I can see them in action) that is out.

Darksun it's all about the Psionics along with the Defiler/Perserver Magic none of which is written up for 4th ed. So I'm thinking that is out.

Second was Ebberon, again Psionics is an issue. Not that I have to use them as much with Ebberon but still.

The other ideas I've had are Ravenloft, because it's Awesome (but that would require me to update the Horror, Fear rules), or possible a Greyhawk game set in the heart of the Scarlet Brotherhood Empire. While I'm not that opposed to written rule, I would kind of like to leave them alone. With the Scarlet idea I'm just not sure of what I would like to do with it. I mean the setting idea intrigues me but not sure what I would do for story-lines.

I've been leaning towards using the 4th ed rules but even that is flexible depending on what I decided.

So BLAH ! Maybe I'll go digging around some of the million books I have and see if anything grabs me.

BREAKING NEWS!
California Supreme Court to Hear Oral Arguments
in Prop 8 Legal Challenge on March 5

The California Supreme Court announced today that it will hear oral arguments on Thursday, March 5, 2009 in the Proposition 8 legal challenge.

On November 19, 2008, the California Supreme Court agreed to hear the legal challenges to Proposition 8 and set an expedited schedule. Briefing in the case was completed on January 21, 2009.
The California Supreme Court must issue its decisions within 90 days of oral argument.

On January 15, 2009, 43 friend-of-the-court briefs urging the Court to invalidate Prop 8 were filed, arguing that Proposition 8 drastically alters the equal protection guarantee in California’s Constitution and that the rights of a minority cannot be eliminated by a simple majority vote. The supporters represent the full gamut of California’s and the nation’s civil rights organizations and legal scholars, as well as California legislators, local governments, bar associations, business interests, labor unions, and religious groups.

In May of 2008, the California Supreme Court held that laws that treat people differently based on their sexual orientation violate the equal protection clause of the California Constitution and that same-sex couples have the same fundamental right to marry as other Californians. Proposition 8 eliminated this fundamental right only for same-sex couples. No other initiative has ever successfully changed the California Constitution to take away a right only from a targeted minority group. Proposition 8 passed by a bare majority of 52 percent on November 4.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights, Lambda Legal, and the ACLU filed this challenge on November 5, representing Equality California, whose members include many same-sex couples who married between June 16 and November 4, 2008, and six same-sex couples who want to marry in California. The California Supreme Court has also agreed to hear two other challenges filed on the same day: one filed by the City and County of San Francisco (joined by Santa Clara County and the City of Los Angeles, and subsequently by Los Angeles County and other local governments); and another filed by a private attorney.

Serving as co-counsel on the case with NCLR, Lambda Legal, and the ACLU are the Law Office of David C. Codell, Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.

The case is Strauss et al. v. Horton et al. (#S168047). Click here for more information.

SO it seems that Queensryche is coming to town. I found out that tickets go on sale tomorrow :(

But with money being what it is I can't go. Working when they go on sale anyway. Besides I don't know anyone that would want to go. Not that I couldn't go by myself, it's just that shows are better when you go with friends.

If I keep telling myself all the things that are working against me going maybe I won't get SO bummed about not being able to go. Oh wells.

Subject:Gaming Stuff
Time:10:12 pm
So a couple posts back I was rambling about gaming and I mentioned that there are lots of games I would love to run. IF we lived in a world where the weekend was like 5 days LONGER !

So guess for the hell of it I've decided to go into more detail about that. Hey it's not like I make anyone read this thing.

So Games that I would Love to run at some point

Well since I'm running a world of darkness game currently, lets start there.

I guess you could say that the current game I'm running is a powerful mortals game. Since we have Kinfolk, Ghouls and the like, but none of the players are full on monsters.

So I've been itching to run Werewolf - (yeah I know Paul hates this game), but I love it, I love the setting, playing, run, everything about werewolf. Since they have dealt with a few Garou in the current game, I've been remembering how much I LOVE this game. At some point I'm sure that I will run this again. There are still a ton of campaigns that I would love to run in this setting.

Changeling the Lost, I've doing a little bit with NPC's and the like in my current game but I would really like to run a full on Changeling game. Don't see it happening anytime soon, but still I think it would be a lot of fun.

Call of Cthulthu (yeah I know Paul hates this game), but I've always liked this game. I would like to run this at some point, but I think it's on the bottom of the list.

Mutants and Masterminds - I like supers, I ran Champions for YEARS, and I've always like it, M&M is a better system and just feels more like you are playing a comic. I've tried to get a M&M game going a few time, with mixed results based on the group.

D&D - Greyhawk- odds are this is what I'll be running when we stop the WoD game. I ran this for years and there are some stories that I still wanted to tell in the Bearers of Fate campaign that I was running.

Along those lines I would like to Run a Planescape Campaign at some point, something Very Swashbuckling. I don't have any real ideas just something I would like to do. I like to play "Big" when it comes to D&D - The Gods, Demon Princes etc. So this seems perfect.

Along that I would like to run Darksun. I had started running a DS game for friends in LA (since one is a huge Psionics fan), and Really got into the setting. But the driving back and forth to LA got to be to much, and then the gas prices shot up and it fizzed out.

Pathfinder - I have the PF adventure paths and have yet to run them I would really like to at some point, just not enough time in the day.

7th Sea is another game that I've never got to run, but really enjoy the setting. SO I would like to try that at some point.

I'm sure that there are a few more that I could add to this list - but I think I should stop now

All in all, I think that it's going to be a bit before I run D&D again, since I ran it for so long, but I'm pretty sure that is what the group will want to play after WoD.
